How Could Sun Storms Affect Climate ?

These days in Jakarta, Indonesia, it’s already raining. Usually now it has entered the rainy season. But in other areas, such as in East Java, it has not rained. Even there the air gets very hot and there are some areas that have difficulty with clean water. According to forecasts of some astronomers in 2012 will occur Sun Storms. Now it’s just about 3 months more to year of 2012. `Would Sun Storms that cause climate change drastically happen?
The most direct influence would come if the change meant a rise or fall in the total energy the Sun radiated upon the Earth, the so-called "solar constant." The development of highly accurate radiometers in the 1970s raised hopes that variations well below one percent could be detected at last. But few trusted any of the measurements from the ground or even from stratospheric balloons. Rockets launched above the atmosphere provided brief observations that seemed to show variation over time, but it was hard to rule out instrumentation errors. Nor were many convinced by Peter Foukal when he applied modern statistical methods to Abbot's huge body of old data, and turned up a faint connection between sunspots and the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth. Even if that were accepted, was it because the Sun emitted less energy? Or was it because ultraviolet radiation from solar storms somehow changed the upper atmosphere, which in turn somehow influenced climate, and thus affected how much sunlight Abbot had seen at the surface

Fukushima cover on its way


Tepco plans to complete the construction of a cover over the stricken Fukushima Daiichi unit 1 by the end of September, according to a progress report submitted to the Japanese nuclear safety agency. Meanwhile, recent analysis suggests most of the fuel in the unit's storage pool is undamaged.

A cover is being installed over the unit 1 reactor building, damaged by a hydrogen explosion on 12 March, as a temporary measure to reduce the release of radioactive materials to the atmosphere as well as to prevent the ingress of rainwater. Preparatory work, such as levelling the ground, began in mid-May. Crawler cranes are to be used in the installation process to minimize the exposure dose of workers and shorten the work period.

According to a report on the construction plan submitted by Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) on 24 June, on-site construction work is now underway and is scheduled for completion by the end of September, although the plans include a contingency margin to the end of November.

The cover will be able to accommodate an accumulated snow load of 30 centimetres, wind speeds of up to 25 metres per second, and a horizontal seismic load of 0.2, according to Tepco. All the wall panels will have a flameproof coating, and the structure will have a filtered ventilation system capable of handling 10,000 cubic metres per hour through six lines, including two backup lines. The cover structure will also be fitted with internal monitoring cameras, radiation and hydrogen detectors, thermometers and a pipe for water injection.
Nuclide analysis of water from the used fuel pool at unit 1 suggests that most of the fuel in the pool is sound, Tepco reports. The analysis of 300 millilitres of water from the pool on 22 June showed higher activity levels than would be expected under normal conditions, but this is assumed to arise from contamination by radioactive materials from rubble, dust and incoming contaminated water.

Trial operations of a system to treat contaminated water at Fukushima are continuing despite an interruption for a caesium absorption unit to be exchanged. According to Tepco, 2489 tonnes of contaminated water had been treated as of 24 June.

Your Dream’s Coming True In The Future

We have tried to set our goals as I described on the earlier post. These goals might be your dreams. Below I give you an example how an awesome dream could be realized by working hard and smart in a Project Management.
Brooklyn Bridge was built according to John Augustus Roebling's dream in 1883. At that time, Mr. Roebling had an idea to build an unusually long bridge connecting New York with Long Island. It was really a crazy dream. At that time the bridge experts around the world collected the opinion that the dream to build the bridge as long as it is highly unlikely and they asked Mr. Roebling to forget that dream.

Mr. Roebling persuade his son, Washington, to cooperate in making the concept of how the bridge could be built and thought about the possibility of resistance. Father and son then hired a project team to do the construction work and start realize their dream .

Poor can not be rejected, lucky not to be achieved, an accident during construction activities take place within a few months. The accident claimed the lives of Mr. Roebling. The child suffered nerve damage to the brain. Washington had to spend time in hospital in a very bad condition. He could not walk, talk and even move. While some bridge experts commented negatively against him.

Washington had to fight against the disease. Trying to get up and move, but none of his limbs is capable to move, except for one finger. With one finger he began trying to communicate with his wife through the symbol made by his finger movements. This body language signaled for the bridge construction. This non-verbal communication continued. All instructions and problems in development activities carried out by tapping a finger until the great bridge completely built. With patience during the construction period of 13 years his wife had faithfully translated her husband’s finger tapping code into meaningful information for engineers who were continuing the construction.

In this true story we learn about the importance of have a dream, then write down the dream of becoming a concept that can be operational , and perform with great firmness and tenacity no matter what happens, insults and even loss.

Sun Storms and Global Warming

A couple days ago my senior blogger friend H. Nizam has written an article about Flood in Wasior, West Papua . This article then remembered me about my writing Solar Storms in 2012 .

Referring to those above articles, it looks like there is relationship between sun storms and global warming. According to several scientific researches, I think that it is true.
The impact of the explosions in the sun can be very serious, having a variety of effects on Earth.

The recent climate change is caused by the global warming. In other hand, the global warming occurs because there are several explosions on the sun surface.
Actually we have tried to reduce the impact of global warming phenomena since long time ago, i.e by planting many, many of woods, including reforesting some regions. But, unfortunately there is no positive result yet.

Nuclear Vessels Development in Argentina

Nilda Garre, Argentine Minister of Defense , announced recently the possibility of reviewing the idea of using nuclear reactors to power some of its naval vessels. She said that the country wants to maintain its position of leadership in industrial and technological skills in the area, and that Argentina does not want to be left out of nuclear propulsion technology.

Therefore, an evaluation will be carried out to determine if the technical resources are available for Argentina to develop its own nuclear vessels. Small pressurized water reactors are being considered, because they have already been used in the fleets of China, France, India, Russia, the UK and USA.
Russia is already using nuclear power for a fleet of civil icebreakers, and that technology is now being used to develop nuclear power stations that allow for small marine reactors to be placed on transportable barges.

One potential supplier of reactors suitable for requirements would be the nuclear technology firm Invap, which has already developed several research reactors as well as the Carem power plant design.

Prospects of Radioisotopes for Economy Development

In a keynote lecture at the opening of the first World Nuclear University (WNU) School on Radioisotopes (RI School) in Seoul recently, Werner Burkart, deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that the nuclear renaissance is not just about nuclear power.
Some 60 radioisotope (RI) professionals from 30 countries, including several from developing countries, were taking part in this intensive three-week leadership development school.
In his overall outlook for the technology RI, Burkart said that there has been significant growth in this field. The prospects for high-tech technologies, such as positron emission tomography (PET) is currently growing at 20% per year. He added that more traditional RI applications in healthcare and environmental protection would also see steady expansion, notably in the context of a worldwide cancer epidemic.
Meanwhile, in his speech at the opening of RI School, the WNU president John Ritch described the use of radioisotopes for peaceful purposes, especially in the economy development. He said, "The Role of Radioisotopes for our economy largely hidden and often underestimated, but in fact it gives so much value to industry, agriculture and health. One of the objectives of the RI School is to encourage and equip you to become a leader who can help to overcome the lack of public understanding of the role of Radioisotopes for peaceful uses. "
At the RI School participants discuss various issues, including the background of worldwide shortages in the availability of the main isotopes used in 80% of nuclear medicine applications, molybdenum-99 (Mo-99). During the program, they will analyze the causes of these deficiencies, and to find viable solutions in the short-term, medium and long term.

Nuclear Energy MoU Between the U.S. and Vietnam

The United States has signed an agreement with Vietnam concerning the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the U.S. and Vietnam was signed in Hanoi recently (30/03/10) by Le Dinh Tien, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam, and Michael Michalak, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam.

In a statement, the U.S. State Department said: "This MoU will pave the way in improving cooperation in such fields as human resource development and infrastructure safety and security, and access to reliable sources in the nuclear fuel, radioactive waste management and fuel usage."

Michalak added, "Vietnam has proven its commitment to responsible expansion of nuclear power through certain stages in cooperation with the United States, among other international partners. A strong nuclear infrastructure development requires monitoring of the spread of the first nuclear power plant in decades ahead."

My Third Writing on Technorati

According to a press release issued by LAPAN (Institute of Aeronautics and Space Indonesia) recently, solar storms are expected to begin increasing in 2012, peaking between 2012 and 2015. The impact of these explosions in the sun can be very serious, having a variety of effects on Earth.

Physicist Dr Michio Kaku has said that the main impact of the solar storms in 2012 will be on high technology equipments such as satellites, internet, television networks and telecommunications systems. Dr Michio Kaku suggested that steps should be taken to reinforce the satellites and create redundant power systems. In the United States, President Obama has already earmarked billions to be spent on the US power grid.
The solar activities may also contribute to climate change. However, when compared to greenhouse gasses, most scientists believe the impact is minimal.

My Second Writing on Technorati

The introduction of nuclear power in developing countries faces two major obstacles, namely financing and public acceptance. Financing, because the capital costs of nuclear power plants are significantly higher than fossil power plants: on a per kilowatt basis about twice the capital costs of coal-fired power plants and three times the capital costs of natural gas combined-cycle plants. It is said that capital is scarce in developing countries and therefore should be used wisely. Public acceptance is necessary, since otherwise delays caused by protests and demonstrations could easily inflate capital costs due to possible increases in interest charges and therefore such protests and demonstrations should be avoided.

The United States Government has shown its commitment to support the development of a new generation of nuclear power plant (NGNP, Next Generation Nuclear Plant) that is more secure and safe.
World Nuclear News dated March 9, 2010 reported that two groups of technologies, each headed by General Atomics and Westinghouse, have been asked to complete the conceptual design and make detailed plans to build the NGNP.
